After just over 6 years in the program, I successfully defended my dissertation on Tuesday 9/6/2011.

Considering the difficulties of the first 5 years, the last year was relatively smooth, and I would call the last hour (the defense itself) easy.

It was also rather anticlimactic. One would think that reaching success after a long struggle would bring joy and happiness. It mostly just brought relief and maybe some dull satisfaction. I am told the joy might follow in a few weeks. We'll see.

I am finally being allowed to schedule my dissertation defense! Better very late than never.

Horray Job

Got a job! Now I just need to find a place that wants to loan me some cash to buy a reliable form of transportation so that I can get to that job.

Transitions are always weird. There's often a lot of cleaning both physically and mentally as we move from one space, location, job, home, car, etc. to another. It doesn't seem to matter if things have been particularly good or bad, there's still a number of good memories and positive attachments that are about to change.

To me, this major type of change generates an unease. The worst part though is my lack of ability to fully describe it. It isn't the uncertainty that's getting to me, at least not this time. ... I don't think so anyway. While there is uncertainty in my next steps, there's also a lot of joy that things are finally moving forward. Maybe there's frustration that there's been so much difficulty and anguish and that the transition is so subtle and small.

Either way, I'm here now. I don't know if I'm happy, sad, or both. But I really can't wait.

More than one?

Yes, there is more than one Sweptline pickup! I have the good fortune of having a Swepline owner 30 minutes away from me that likes to share his knowledge.

Transmission Inspection Cover

Replaced the transmission inspection cover on the left with the one on the right.

Used some 3M Strip-Calk (their spelling) to seal it up.

I know it is supposed to be body color but this will work for now with my tattered carpet.

Once I figure out what "body color" is going to be I can paint it all.

Much quieter in the cab now without a bunch of holes in the floor.
