Truckin'

Been working on the engine for the truck quite a bit.

I've cleaned up a number of parts and they are ready to be bolted up.

We put the block in the boring/honing machine today.

As soon as the block is honed I can clean it, paint it, and start reassembly.

There was much bad news on this motor when we took it apart. It had been a 1/2-ass rebuild job that was done poorly. The block itself was in great shape. The decks were flat and the mains were properly sized. But I've had to do some work on the rods and pistons to make them right. Very soon though it will be ready.

Friday October 30th

Our own personal Friday the 13th.

Alex lost her job because the company she works for is closing its doors.

I found out I'm going to have to rewrite my dissertation from front to back because one out of the five people on the committee (the last person) doesn't like most of it.

Oh! That's not stock?

I wonder how many people will be fooled simply because I painted things with a stock engine paint color. Probably not many.

Not so quick

The spare engine will not be up and running as quickly as planned.

Pulled a rod cap to double check and it is toast. The other 7 were also toast. The part nearest the camera with the copper colored marks is what is bad. The copper colored marks should not be there at all.

The spare engine

Because who doesn't keep a spare 440 sitting around???

Dove into the engine today and things are looking good. It is going to take some work but things could have been so much worse. Hopefully I get it running shortly after I get all the parts in.
